About

V. Sathyanarayana (Sathya, as fondly known) is a former librarian, information entrepreneur and information products and services developer rolled into one. He is the founder director of Informatics Publishing Ltd – a leading information and Publishing company, which he promoted in 1980 as an early pioneer in e-information access and delivery in India.

Currently, he is the Chairman and Managing Director of Informatics. Sathya started his career as a librarian and worked in different institutions and agencies such as Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, HMT, SKF for seven years before promoting his brainchild Informatics. Informatics pioneered the introduction of International online database access in 1984.  First to introduce and market CD-ROM technology products in India in 1988.

Besides his business engagements, Sathya has served on various professional and Government bodies in India, concerning libraries and knowledge management such as:

Chairman, working group on libraries & knowledge network set up by the State Knowledge Commission of Karnataka Government in India (2008-2012)

Member, working group on content creation and content industry" of the National Task Force on Information Technology and Software Development set up by set up by the Office of the Prime Minister of India. (May 1998-2000).

Member of Programme  Advisory Committee (PAC) of the NISSAT sponsored project entitled “Establishment of the Vigyan Server and Internet School at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore

Member of Board of Studies, Information Science, SNDT Women’ s University, Mumbai

Member of Governing Council for Centre for Information Science and Technology,  (CIST), Mysore

Honorary Visiting Professor in the Dept of Studies in Library & Information Sciences, University of Mysore, Mysore.

Editorial board of CD-ROMs in Print(Meckler Publishing, UK) for two years – 1990 and 1991.

Awards

  • He is the Recipient of Young Information Scientist award in 1991 by the Society for Information Science (India).
  • Sathya organised the International Information Industry conference, INFOTEX’93 the first of its kind from India - for the Society for Information Science, sponsored by NIC, DST, DBT, UNESCO, The Hindu and many international companies like Chemical Abstracts.
  • He visited UK as a British Council Scholar under their scholarship in 1989. Has travelled and continues to travel extensively within and outside India ( USA, UK, Australia, Japan, Germany, HongKong, Thailand, Phillipines, France, Malaysia, Egypt, Srilanka, Singapore etc) for business meetings/participate in the global information industry events like ALA, IFLA, SLA, London Online, Frankfurt Book Fair etc to enhance his professional skills and knowledge base.
  • He has worked in the editorial team of two conference proceedings - Database Production and Distribution Technologies. Infotex ‘93, published by Tata McGraw-Hill, (1993) and Digital Libraries Conference held at IISc. Bangalore. (1995) published by New Age Publications.
  • New developments and the future of Information Industry in general and the partnerships & collaboration opportunities in particular are topics of interest Sathya is looking forward to learn, share and explore.
